New for 2019 in our laboratory: torsion bars are being added to our range of Split-Hopkinson bars, alongside the pressure bars and direct tensile-test bars we already own.
Split-Hopkinson torsion bars (SHToB) are used to perform pure shear tests and to investigate a stress triaxiality level to complement the compressive and tensile tests. This new equipment was designed to test all types of materials and, for example, is able to characterize high-strength armor steels at strain rates of around 2,500 s-1. Just like all of our Split-Hopkinson bars, it is compatible with our induction heating solution (up to 1,000°C).
Our laboratory therefore has the capacity to study material breakage behavior based on the triaxiality of stress and temperature in a dynamic state. These Split-Hopkinson Torsion Bars are also available for sale.
